Famous Last Words: Dead Week

(Yoda Graduate Meme, personal source.)

  • Your reading for this week: I did not do both portions, but I had every intention of reading both. This past week just picked me up and threw me across the room and did not even take me to the hospital. I remember that the reading was more in a gossip-storytelling tone than any of the other stories I have read this semester. I also remember the characters who committed adultery in the stories were always women; and I was shocked and a little bit angry. The narrators depicted these women as pretty, but cheated on their husbands, usually much older husbands. The husbands were depicted as average looking men, but strived for honor and/or were very devote, good men. Which we know for a fact that adultery goes both ways.
  • Your best writing for this week: I did my best writing in another class, I created a Media Plan which basically states the social media channels we are targeting, why we are targeting them and who we hope to reach with our selected targeting and what raised awareness will do for the company we are working with for this Capstone project. It was necessarily my best writing, but I think I improved on the type of writing I needed to finish for this semester project.
  • Other people's writing: I really like Taylor Thurston’s writing. I think they are well planned and nicely written. They are also entertaining and some of the other writings that I have read just are not fun to read. You can usually tell who likes to write and who just wrote something to get it down and turned in. So, other blogs are harder to read than others.
  • Your other classes: I completed all my content for my Capstone book, but the Book itself (I was not in charge of the book) is unorganized and inconsistent – I am honestly worried about the grade I will receive. We have dress rehearsal on Monday and we are watching my classmates’ presentations as well throughout the week. Our final presentation is on May 8, so I am ready for that course to be finished. I have a final project due on Tuesday which I am not worried about and then I have a one-page paper due on Wednesday for my fitness class. After May 8, I will be officially finished with college! I am so ready.
  • Next week: My hopes for next week are to go smoothly with every project, hopefully A’s and B’s. Next week is Finals Week – it’ll be my last Finals Week and I am ready!

Famous Last Words: Two Weeks of Overload

Your reading for this week: I enjoyed the reading for this week and I am a little upset I did not get to finish Reading Part B. This previous week snuck up on me and I got behind on not just this class but my other courses as well.  I enjoyed reading about Isis, she seems like a big strong female that I tend to gravitate toward in the stories I read.

Your best writing for this week: I am neutral about my Week 5 writing; I think I could have done better if not for being a little overwhelmed during the week. I actually really enjoyed receiving feedback from my peers and the professor about my Portfolio project, specifically my Sunflower piece. I usually latched onto a specific theme in the story and create my own story separate from the reading I have done. However, I did try adding my own spin to my Week 5 story and I really enjoyed the challenge.

Other people's writing: I really enjoyed reading Tyler’s retelling of the legend of Hades and Persephone. I really liked how Persephone was the one to ‘steal’ Hades away from the underworld and have him slowly fall in love with her instead. Her twist to how the seasons change and the spring’s storms are due to Persephone’s sorrow being separated from Hades was interesting and I liked her little detail of Spring storms.

Your other classes: My other classes are busy: I had two different projects due on the same day and I have to plan accordingly for other projects due in a few weeks. I haven’t noticed any connecting themes with this class and my other ones, but I am sure my campaigns course will reveal some overlapping themes.

Outside of school and next week: I am super busy for the next two weeks. I am organizing two fundraising booths for Hayden’s Hope at the PRSSA Regional Conference which will be hosted at Gaylord College. I am creating pamphlets and brochures for the booth. Then that next week, I am going to Chicago with some Advertising and PR students to visit agencies. I will be gone from Wednesday to Sunday, so I will be busy working ahead for this class and my other classes.

Famous Last Words: Strong Women

(GettyImages/WireImage Photo by Kevin Mazur; Web Source.)

My reading for this week: Overall, my reading was not very interesting. I had time to do both my readings, but I forgot to do a declaration for Part B. The underlying themes the stories used allowed me to create my own stories. I know after reading the Adam and Eve unit I should read topics I am not aware of for the sake of my sanity. I was raised in a Southern Baptist household and I am not a religious person; some of the oppressive themes of the Bible concerning Eve was frustrating for me. Even though I grew up in a Christian home, my mother is a strong woman, but my parents equally share the responsibilities - they both 'wore the pants' in the relationship.

Your best writing for this week: In my opinion, the writing I did in this class if the best writing because I enjoyed writing the stories more than I liked writing case studies and critical analyses. I have not had any issues in writer's block (knock on wood). I used a writing style similar to the first two stories I wrote.

Other people's writing: During the project feedback assignment, I found two stories I enjoyed reading. I laughed, squealed, shouted with triumph during some of the scenes in one of the stories. Both stories showcased strong female characters which I think is a theme of mine, a crucial aspect for me. One of the writing styles was delicate and vivid in its imagery while the other was action packed and quick paced. They were different styles, but they consisted of strong females which the units lacked. I think it is admirable for someone to rewrite the stories or create new ones involving strong women.

Your other classes: My other courses are frantic and busy. There are no connections I can find within this mythology course. I think in my Digital Design course I could pull artistic themes into my adobe designs. Also, I might be able to pull in some mythology themes later into my Capstone class.

Outside of school: I went to a play called Galileo’s Torch on Friday night. It depicted Galileo’s life and how the church and religion destroyed his life. The lighting and the actors did well with what they were given considering the author of the play was a scientist and could not correctly portray human emotion well. I also was roped into watching a classic Bollywood movie called Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which means something happens in English. It’s a stereotypical Bollywood movie: very overdramatic and bright colors, but it was fun to watch. The only thing I did not like about the movie was the instances where the male love interest humiliated the love interest, but this made her fall more in love with him.  My Indian friend says this is very common in Bollywood movies. Other than that, I enjoyed the movie and will most likely watch another Bollywood movie.

Next week: I have an exam and a meeting on Monday plus Part A of the reading for this class. I plan to finish Part B and the Storytelling on Tuesday as well as another assignment due on Tuesday. Wednesday I plan on working with extra credit for this class. I have a two-day career fair on Friday and Saturday I am attending for Gaylord College. Plus many more meetings.
